The class diary and the consents for photos
In the class diary teachers write short posts about the class's day, with up to 10 photos. Only the families of that class see them, with no comments or likes. It stays off until the school switches it on.
Who can do it
The office switches it on. Teachers write, in the classes they teach, and the office in any class. A post is removed by whoever wrote it, or by the office.
What you do
First, tell the families and the teachers
Once it is on, every parent sees a "Class" tab on nepinest.com and is asked for the consent for photos. Better that they already know what it is.
The office switches it on
In Settings, under "Class diary", turn the switch on and press "Save". Switching it on posts nothing by itself.
The two consents
A child is in a photo of the diary only with both. The first, "Photos in daily reports", is ticked by the school on the child's record. The second is given by the parent on the "Class" tab, once for each child, reading what they allow: that the other families of the class see the photos with their child in them.
A consent on paper
If the parent signed it on a form, the office records it under "Class diary", in "Who may be in a photo": "Paper" beside the child, then "Yes, record it". The child's parents are notified that it was recorded, and can withdraw it.
The teacher writes
Under "Class diary" they choose the class, write what the class did and add JPEG, PNG or WebP photos. They write no children's names: every family of the class reads it. What they write stays a draft that only they see, until they publish it.
For each photo, which children are recognisable
Before a photo goes in, they mark which children are recognisable in it, or "Nobody". Only the children with both consents are offered. The others are listed underneath by name: if one of them is in the picture, the photo stays out of the diary ("Leave it out"). Its place is that child's own daily report.
Publishing
With "Publish" the parents of the class are notified. A published post is never changed: it is removed whole, or one photo of it is.
What the family sees
On the "Class" tab, the posts of their children's classes, with the teacher's name. The photos do not say which children are in them. NepiNest offers no way to download them, but a family can photograph its screen. The app in the stores today does not show the diary: parents read it on nepinest.com.
What you should see
The portal says "Published. … parents were told." and the post is first under "Class diary" and on the "Class" tab of the class's families. Photos are deleted after 180 days and the words after 400.
If something went wrong
- A child is not offered when you mark a photo
- One of the two consents is missing. "Who may be in a photo" says which: "No school photo consent" or "Not given yet". The office ticks the first on the child's record. The parent gives the second, or the office records it from the form.
- The portal says "The class diary is not on"
- The school has not switched it on, or switched it off. The office switches it on in Settings. While it is off families do not see it; the posts stay, and come back if it is switched on again.
- A teacher sees no class
- They write only in the classes they teach. The office puts them in the class in Classrooms.
- A post went out with a mistake
- It cannot be corrected. Press "Remove" and write it again. If the mistake is one photo, only that photo is removed.
- The draft is gone
- A draft that was not published is deleted after 7 days.
- A parent withdrew the consent
- Every photo the child was marked in is hidden at once from everyone, the school included, and deleted for good. The post's words and its other photos stay. The same happens if the school removes "Photos in daily reports" from the child's record.
- A parent says they did not give the consent that shows
- "Who may be in a photo" says how it was given, "By a parent" or "On paper", and when. They withdraw it themselves on the "Class" tab, or the office does with "Withdraw". The Activity log keeps who recorded it.
